Former Kentucky Wildcat Hardley Gilmore IV has parted ways with the Nebraska football program. The decision was announced by Head Coach Matt Rhule following a spring practice session on Saturday.
The dismissal marked an abrupt end to Gilmore’s brief tenure with the Cornhuskers, which began just four months ago when he transferred from Kentucky.
Gilmore, a native of Belle Glade, Florida, joined Nebraska in January after a freshman season with Kentucky in 2024. During his time with the Wildcats, he recorded six receptions for 153 yards and one touchdown, averaging an impressive 25.5 yards per catch.

His season was hampered by a broken collarbone sustained during fall camp, causing him to miss the first five games. He appeared in the final five contests, showcasing his potential as a deep-threat target.
A former four-star prospect from Pahokee High School, Gilmore reclassified from the 2025 class to 2024, graduating early to begin his college career.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound receiver arrived in Lincoln alongside familiar faces from Kentucky, including position coach Daikiel Shorts Jr., assistant receivers coach Andrew Verboys and fellow wideout Dane Key.
He participated in mat drills and early spring practices, aiming to secure a role in Nebraska’s offense. However, his stint with the Huskers concluded unexpectedly this week.
The reason for Gilmore’s dismissal remains undisclosed, though it has been characterized as an internal team matter unrelated to external issues.
With three years of eligibility remaining, the young wideout is expected to seek opportunities elsewhere. His next destination remains uncertain, but his talent and production at Kentucky suggest he will draw interest from other programs.
