I was on a high school choir trip to Nashville, Tennessee, and part of our itinerary was watching a country concert at the Grand Ole Opry. Having never been a fan of country music, I felt indifferent about going.
Then, Sierra Ferrell graced the stage. As she began to sing, I was stunned and completely in awe of her raw vocal talent and stage presence. I didn’t know who she was before that night at the Opry, but it was immediately clear to me that she was a remarkable performer.
Ever since then, I’ve been a loyal listener. So, when I heard she took home four Grammys at the 2025 awards, I was ecstatic.
After re-listening to “Trail Of Flowers,” the winner of Best Americana Album, I can confidently say the album deserves the praise it has received.
Ferrell also took home three more well-deserved Grammys in the following categories:
- Best American Roots Performance for “Lighthouse”
- Best Americana Performance for “American Dreaming”
- Best American Roots Song for “American Dreaming”
“American Dreaming,” the album’s leadoff track, showcases Ferrell’s softer vocals. If you’ve listened to her before, you know she’s capable of impressive, sustained belting, as she proves in her tribute rendition of “Years” by John Anderson. However, in this song, she leans into a more vulnerable side of herself as an artist, with her lyrics telling a vivid story of unrest and longing.
During my first listen to the album, I looked past “American Dreaming” in anticipation of the next songs in the queue that had been released as singles. After repeatedly listening to the album since its release, it’s become one of my favorites on the tracklist.
Ferrell’s other Grammy-winning song performance was for “Lighthouse,” which is about love being a guiding light. In her performances of the song, the chorus harmonies sung alongside Ferrell delightfully compliment her voice and add to the overall texture of the song.
My favorite part of Ferrell’s “Lighthouse” performance is how she sings the final chorus. While she also sings in contrasting times with the ensemble in the recorded album, hearing it executed live makes for a much more unique and engaging listening experience.
Although “Dollar Bill Bar” didn’t win a Grammy on its own, it is undoubtedly my favorite song from “Trail of Flowers.” The chorus for this song is simply catchy and an overall enjoyable listen. The mix of soft vocals with an almost stern tone in her voice gives “Dollar Bill Bar” remarkable depth that can be appreciated by any music lover.
Overall, I believe Ferrell’s album deserves Grammy acclaim and is a genuine piece of art that has solidified her as a generational talent.
Now having four Grammys to her name, it’s clear her road to musical success is just beginning. She is so deserving, and I can’t wait to continue to follow her on this journey.

She is like a breathe of fresh air.
I saw her in Charlotte NC last year.
She and her group were nothing short of magnificent. Sierra Ferrel is a name to watch. Her charm and talents are undeniably the best I’ve heard in many many moons. I have both her CDs and i never tire of the tranquility she brings and showers us with her ever present talents.
