Kentucky swim and dive took its 15th consecutive sweep against Cincinnati on Saturday, Jan. 18, where the women dominated 179-116 and the men took their victory with a score 164-136.
The standout swimmer on the men’s swim side was junior Ryan Merani, who took the men’s 200-meter individual medley with an NCAA B-standard time of 1:45.50, the 100-meter butterfly and the 200-meter freestyle (free).
On the diving side, Kristy Pfaff was dominant on the women’s 1-meter dive, where she took a first place score of 309.75 — a score that places her as ninth-highest in school history.
The Wildcats continued the sweep of the women’s 1-meter dive behind Pfaff, where Abby Devereaux and Avery Giese took second and third respectively.
Devereaux’s second place finish was complemented with a first place win in the 3-meter dive, followed by Pfaff in second and Claire McDaniels in third with a score of 300.50 to lead to a new NCAA zone cut.
Gavin Hang on the men’s side also got a first place score alongside a new school ranking, where he scored a 390.45 in the 3-meter dive, earning him eighth-highest in school history. Hang also earned a new NCAA zone cut on his 1-meter dive with a score of 308.50.
Following Hang as dominant on the men’s side was fifth-year senior Sam Duncan, who took first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 352.55 and a third place finish in the 3-meter dive.
The women’s swim team put up numbers for the Wildcats as well, where the 100-meter free saw a podium sweep with Sammie Hamilton in first, Paige Housman in second and Katy Jost in third.
Hayden Penny took first in both the 500-meter free and the 200-meter free, with times of 1:47.95 and 4:49.74, respectively. Her first place finish in the 500 was followed by Hamilton.
Bridget Engel continued her evident domination in the 200-meter breaststroke, where she continued to see success against the Bearcats with first place secured.
Junior Grace Frericks also stood out in the meet, taking first in the 100-meter backstroke and the 100-meter free with times of 53.63 and 49.33, respectively.
The meet wrapped up with a 400-meter free relay win with thanks to Max Berg, Justin Peresse, Logan Ingerick and Carson Hick, Kentucky’s A team, followed in second by its B team.
Kentucky will look forward to its last home meet versus Louisville on Saturday, Jan. 25. The meet will begin at 1 p.m. ET, with recognition for its senior day beforehand.
