Punches and smiles in gubernatorial debate

“He is a man that does not do his job but wants to create smoke screens,” Bevin said of Conway. Bevin then accused Conway of not enforcing the constitution and not enforcing Kentucky law, which says university boards should be racially and politically inclusive, in reference to the University of Louisville board of trustees having no black members despite the city being more than 20 percent black.

Conway later defended himself on the issue when speaking to reporters.

“I’m disappointed in the governor that he didn’t put African Americans on the U of L board … and when I’m governor I’m going to rectify that,” Conway said.

The most recent Bluegrass Poll released in late July had Conway in a slight lead with 43 percent of respondents saying they would vote for him with 38 percent for Bevin and 8 percent for Curtis.

The next Bluegrass Poll will be released on Sept. 30.

The election is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
