The Student Activities Board’s Bollywood Night event kicked off with free food provided by UK dining services, an opportunity to have a picture taken in costume inside a photo booth and henna tattoos by a member of the Indian Student Association Thursday night.

Inside the Student Center Ballroom, students were served Indian-style cuisine and found their seats to watch the Ishaara Dance Company, which competed on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” The troupe performed several dance routines that were based off of classical styles of Indian dance, as well as some modern Bollywood routines.

SAB, through the collaboration with ISA to present the event, attempted to put more emphasis on cultural diversity, said cultural affairs committee representative N’deyah Belle.

“Bollywood Night was a unique campus event in that it presented a good opportunity for students to be exposed to another culture and to step out of their shells,” Belle said.

After several routines had been performed, the dancers instructed the spectators in several dance moves from their routines to make the event more interactive and beneficial to those who came.

According to the Creative Designs and Public Relation director of ISA, Sai Yalla, Bollywood Night was “the best thing that could’ve happened for them” in terms of outreach goals as ISA tries to make itself known as a campus resource.
