Junior college defensive tackle Melvin Lewis has signed with UK as a part of the class of 2013, according to his Twitter.

Lewis is a 6-foot-4, 320-pound defensive tackle that played two years at Fullerton Community College in Fullerton, Calif. Lewis originally is from Compton, Calif., where he attended Compton High School.

At Fullerton, Lewis was second on the team with sacks (3.5) last season. Lewis also was second in tackles for a loss (6) and sixth in total tackles (41) in 2012.

His 2012 season earned himself All-State honors for Region IV by the California Community College Football Coaches Association.

Lewis’ other offers were from Miami (Fla.), Washington and Hawaii, according to an interview with Wildcat Blue Nation.

His national letter of intent means the Cats’ class of 2013 stands at 23, and Lewis is the fifth junior college player in the class.
