UK guard Jon Hood will likely redshirt this season due to his torn ACL, head coach John Calipari said.

“I don’t think he’ll play this year, not at this late of date,” Calipari said. “There’s no reason to use up a year of eligibility for that. I’m just now seeing him on the treadmill. I think he’s a ways away.”

The decision has been largely expected ever since Hood’s injury in the summer. Heading into the year, however, Hood held out hope that he might be able to make a full recovery in time to get on the court for a substantial amount of time.

It doesn’t appear that will be the case for Hood, who will continue to help the team in practice and on the sidelines in whatever way he can.
