Calipari tells ESPN what schools SEC should target if they expand again

UK head coach John Calipari told ESPN that should the SEC choose to expand again, it should target Virginia Tech, Maryland and Missouri.

Calipari has long said that he thinks conferences will expand to 16 or 18 superconferences. After the recent addition of Texas A&M, which Calipari lauded as a good move for the conference, the SEC is now at 13 teams.

Calipari’s quote from Andy Katz’s article:

I can tell you that the SEC at 13, 14 or 16 is going to be stable. We’re fine. If they’re going to add, I’d like us to go and get Virginia Tech, Maryland and Missouri to go along with Texas A&M. We’re not going to do anything at the expense of academics. You’re also going to see basketball step up in the next five years in the SEC.
