BREAKING NEWS: Orton still committed to UK, father says.

Despite Internet reports claiming star UK recruit Daniel Orton had decommitted from the Cats and new UK head coach John Calipari, Orton’s father said on Wednesday those reports were false

“It’s not true, it was all a misunderstanding,” Larry Orton said to the Kernel.

Daniel Orton — a 6-foot 9 center — is ranked the No. 3 center in the nation according to Scout.com, the Web site that originally reported that Orton had decommitted. Daniel Orton is ranked the No. 12 prospect overall in this year’s class according to Scout.com. Recruiting Web site Rivals.com lists Daniel Orton as the No. 22 best prospect overall.

Larry Orton said that despite a whirlwind the last few weeks, his son wouldn’t ask for a release from his letter of intent as long as things run smoothly.

Part of the speculation around Daniel Orton’s rumored decommitment could have been started thanks to the commitment of DeMarcus Cousins, the No. 2 center in the nation according to Scout.com. But Larry Orton didn’t think the fact that UK would have two commitments from centers would affect his son’s decisions.
