Vilarino decommits from UK after talking with Calipari

High school basketball recruit G.J. Vilarino has asked for and been granted a release from his commitment to the UK men’s basketball team, Scout.com reported on Thursday.

Vilarino, a three-star point guard prospect from McKinney High School in McKinney, Texas, signed with UK in the fall after being recruited by former UK head coach Billy Gillispie.

Vilarino is the third recruit to withdraw his commitment to UK since John Calipari was announced as head coach Wednesday. K.C. Ross-Miller, a Class of 2010 point guard from Texas, reopened his recruitment Wednesday. Konner Tucker, a shooting guard from Lon Morris Junior College in Texas, reopened his recruitment on Monday before Calipari signed at UK.

Speculation is that several high school recruits, including five-star prospect DeMarcus Cousins, who had previously committed to Memphis, could follow Calipari to UK. Xavier Henry, who signed a letter-of-intent at Memphis, will not attend Memphis because of Calipari’s departure, said Carl Henry, Xavier’s father.
