Todd to recommend tuition cap to Board of Trustees

After the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education voted on Friday to set a tuition ceiling of 5 percent for UK, UK President Lee Todd will look to set tuition rates for the 2009-2010 school year at the Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday.

Todd said last week that he will propose to the trustees to set tuition rates in alignment with the recommendation set by the CPE.

Tuition will be the main point of discussion at the meeting, said Everett McCorvey, a faculty representative on the board.

“I think that tuition will be a big discussion,” McCorvey said. “We are all interested in finding creative ways to keep tuition costs affordable for all students.”

In addition to tuition discussions, the board will listen to updates from the University Health Care and Investment committees, McCorvey said.

“We will also hear reports from the University Health Care Committee about the renovation of the hospital, as well as Investment Committee reports, especially with the downturn of the economy,” McCorvey said.

The Board of Trustees meeting is at 1 p.m. Tuesday on the 18th floor of the Patterson Office Tower.
