The first small-format Target store in the state of Kentucky will open next summer, located at 500 S. Upper St. near UK’s campus.

Target has signed a lease with Core Spaces for the Target to be on the ground floor of Hub on Campus Lexington, a luxury apartment complex, according to a press release.

Target’s small-format stores are tailored to meet the needs of local guests and are being located near college campuses, urban areas and dense suburban neighborhoods.

“Our first small-format store in Kentucky will offer UK students and area residents a convenient, one-stop shopping experience that is uniquely Target,” said Mark Schindele, senior vice president of Properties, Target, in the press release.

The store will be about 20,000 square feet, with food and beverage selections, dorm and apartment essentials, apparel and accessories for both men and women and technology and entertainment accessories.

Core Spaces Executive Vice President of Development Chad J. Matesi said Core Spaces is thrilled to work with Target.

“Hub on Campus Lexington is designed to offer an exceptional housing option to University of Kentucky students and residents,” he said. “Having Target on the first floor not only provides a convenient, one-stop shopping experience for our tenants, but also adds great value to our unique amenity mix.”

The Campus Lexington apartment complex will be located where the UK parking lot used to be, next to Raising Cane’s.
