Kentucky distance runners post multiple personal records and a school record in a successful weekend in Boston.
As the majority of track and field went to warm Clemson, S.C., the troopers running the men’s and women’s mile and 3,000 meters took to the track in the Northeast.
The two-day event separated the races into men’s and women’s, with the Kentucky men’s competitors going off on Friday afternoon.
Kentucky brought three runners to the men’s one-mile run: Nicola Baiocchi ran in heat five, Levi Bichii in heat seven, and Jackson Wyatt ran in heat 12.
Wyatt finished third in his respective heat, finishing at 4:08.37 and Bichii finished 10th, also finishing at 4:08.14.
Baiocchi finished the best of the three at 4:03.27, placing fourth in his heat and 48th in the final among 283 racers who finished.
Baiocchi, who is a freshman out of Italy, is already outcompeting fellow teammates at a young age after shining in the fall during cross-country season.
He is quickly getting a feel for things as the season winds down, just like the duo of Ed Bird and Collins Kiprop Kipnok, who set some impressive times in the men’s 3,000-meter race.
Kipnok, who was the SEC Freshman of the Year in 2025 and 3,000-meter steeplechase champion last year, proved why he’s running in these early heats and fighting for a top spot.
He finished at 7:50.83, and now holds the No. 2 UK all-time ranking, just behind his teammate Bird, who ran 0.84 seconds faster than Kipnok at 7:49.99.
Bird set a new personal record for himself and now currently holds a spot in Kentucky record books as the fastest time in the 3,000-meter race.
The legs are getting hot at the right time as the postseason lurks closely around the corner.
A Valentine’s Day Saturday brought more excitement as the women of Kentucky distance runners finally got their time to shine on the track.
Beginning with Lyric Olson, who raced in heat three, winning her respective heat by a tenth of a second at 4:43.31.
Olson posted a new personal record for herself and got herself finishing eighth in the women’s mile.
Kentucky prepared another mile runner, the speedy freshman Doricah Minsari Isoe, who raced in the invite-only event.
Isoe, alongside other speedy athletes, placed 37th while running a 4:40.58 mile, keeping it within seconds between the racers in front of her and behind her down to the wire and the finish line.
Ending the trip to Boston University with the final event was the women’s 3,000-meter race, involving Ally Kruger and Ann Lemirisho.
Both racers set a new personal record, including the midseason transfer Lemirisho, who was a 2025 All-Big 12 in cross country and now posted a 9:27.23 finish and placed 49th of 207 finishers.
Then, the senior Kruger, as her collegiate racing days wind down to the end, is still setting new personal records at 9:10.53, beating her old personal best by nine seconds.
Both men’s and women’s runners are posting impressive times with new records are getting hot at the right time as the SEC championship nears.
Kentucky track and field will be back in action for the three-day festivities in College Station, Texas, starting on Thursday, Feb. 26, with the opportunity to take home an SEC title.
