2K Games announced on Wednesday that 16 college basketball programs will appear in the MyTeam and MyCareer modes of the NBA 2K26 Season 5 release.
Kentucky, along with other top programs such as Duke, Kansas, Arizona, UCLA and Florida, will be featured in the newest season.
Season 5 will include both men’s and women’s programs and will even allow users to play at one of the most prestigious venues in college sports, Rupp Arena.
The trailer released by 2K showcases Otega Oweh, former Wildcat Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Kentucky women’s basketball’s Tonie Morgan as well.
Users will have the luxury of competing with a 99-overall ‘Dark Matter De’Aaron Fox’ card for MyTeam, as well as being able to wear former players’ jerseys and use a Kentucky mural when playing MyCourt.
“Authentically representing the scale of college hoops is an ambitious project that begins with our foundational college basketball experience available in early 2027,” 2K said in a release. “We’ll have more details to share on that in the future, but for now, it’s time to get in the spirit and dive into everything Season 5 has to offer.”
In September 2024, 2K confirmed that it planned to release a full college basketball game in 2027, so you can’t help but wonder if the limited release of 16 teams in Season 5 of NBA 2K26 is more of a trial run than anything.
“Yes, it’s true,” the company’s tweet said. “We’re working on a college basketball experience that will feature more than 100 programs from across the country, from powerhouses to Cinderella stories.”
For now, users can enjoy a small glimpse of college ball in video game form before a much broader range of programs and game modes is expected to hit stores in 2027.
Season 5 of NBA 2K26 is set to release on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, at 11 a.m. ET.
