A Winter Storm Warning was issued in Lexington from Jan. 24-25, according to the National Weather Service.
Eric Monday, executive vice president for finance and administration, sent out a campus-wide email on Jan. 22, predicting heavy snowfall and arctic air this weekend.
The University of Kentucky will send a UK Alert with any changes in the universityās status, including delays or closures, according to the email.Ā
On Jan. 23, Monday sent a campus-wide email providing advice on staying safe during the winter storm, saying to limit time outdoors and to prevent frozen pipes by ensuring doors and windows are locked.
āTemperatures will be bitterly cold, with wind chills well below freezing. Exposure to these conditions can quickly lead to frostbite and hypothermia,ā Monday wrote.
Any other changes will be shared via email, UKās social media accounts, the UK homepage and UKNow.
The crisis management team, emergency management and meteorology experts met Jan. 22 to prepare and coordinate resources for the incoming weather. According to Monday, these teams will be closely monitoring the forecast.
All in-person activities are canceled during an unscheduled closing. Synchronous activities, however, may occur during the closing. Online classes are said to continue during closures, unless canceled by the instructor.
āAs always, our goal is to keep campus fully operational to sustain our critical missions of education, research, service and patient care,ā Monday wrote.
