The University of Kentucky Police Department is expanding safety measures through its safety campaign, “Wildcat Ready.”
Chief of Police Joe Monroe sent a campus-wide email on Jan. 14, updating the UK community on the campaign designed to inform the community on safety features brought to campus.
“We know that feeling safe and supported remains key to your success as you begin the spring semester,” Monroe wrote.
Part of the safety measures include installing permanent lighting along Winslow and Scott Street, as well as adding cameras and access controls to residence hall security.
“We remain committed to making your experience as safe as possible every step of the way,” Monroe wrote.
Students can download the SafeZone app for virtual police escorts, which allows users to share their location with UKPD until the user turns it off.
According to the UKPD website, students can automatically enroll to receive UK Alerts via email, phone call and text message if users have entered a phone number into myUK.
More information on the UK Alert system can be found on their website.
