The transfer portal is set to open in a few days and Kentucky football will need a new quarterback as Cutter Boley is set to enter the transfer portal, per Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos of On3.
Boley joined the Wildcats as a four-star recruit from Lexington Christian Academy and one of the most anticipated Kentucky players in recent years.
As a freshman, Boley played in just four games towards the back end of a lackluster season to get some experience at the college level while retaining his redshirt which he used.
Coming into 2025, Boley ignited a quarterback battle with Zach Calzada and started the season as the backup.
This competition between the two only built the hype and anticipation for Boley.
However, it took just two games for Boley to find the field again and he remained the starting quarterback for the rest of the season.
Boley led the Wildcats to a 5-7 record and a 2-6 record in the SEC, both improvements on the 2024 season.
He also broke some ugly streaks by getting the first SEC win in over a year and first SEC home win in over two years during his run with the Wildcats in 2025.
The quarterback made believers out of much of Big Blue Nation with his never quit play style and the pride he took in playing for the Wildcats.
When it comes to stats, Boley finished the season with 2,160 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
His play also resulted in being named SEC Freshman of the Week three times and he was named to the All-SEC Freshman team.
Boley also set the Kentucky record for the most touchdowns thrown in a game for a freshman with his five touchdown game against Tennessee.
Many looked to Boley as the future of the program and the end of the transfer portal carousel, but Kentucky will likely have another transfer under center in 2026.
It was unknown how the change at head coach from Mark Stoops to Will Stein would affect the quarterbacks status, but it seems to have been decided.
Boley will enter the portal with three years of eligibility left.
