The University of Kentucky’s former swim coach Lars Jorgensen’s civil trial date delayed to January 2027.
According to former Kentucky Kernel reporting, the original five-day jury trial was scheduled for June 22, 2026.
All parties in the case asked for a delay, according to court records. The trial is now scheduled for Jan. 19, 2027, in the U.S. District Court in Lexington, set by U.S. District Judge Karen Caldwell.
In summer 2023, UK allowed Jorgensen to resign from his position amid allegations of sexual assault.
Two of Jorgensen’s former UK swimmers filed a pending lawsuit against Jorgensen, UK Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart and Gary Conelly, former UK swim head coach, on April 24, 2024.
The accusations regarded patterns of sexual harassment and assault, according to KRNL magazine.
The lawsuit alleges UK hired Jorgensen knowing of this behavior, as officials from the University of Toledo, his previous workplace, contacted UK about inappropriate relations Jorgensen had with students at this university.
Previously, the Kernel reported that Barnhart declined to comment on the lawsuit via text from Tony Neely, UK’s assistant director for athletics communications and public relations.
“We do not do interviews on pending litigation, so we will decline the request,” Neely said.
According to UK spokesperson Jay Blanton, the university has no comment on the delayed trial date.
The Kernel contacted Jorgensen’s lawyers in October for a statement and are awaiting a response.
