No. 1 seed Kentucky volleyball (29-2, 15-0 SEC) has punched its ticket to the Final Four with a sweep over No. 3 seed Creighton (28-6, 16-0 Big East).
This is just the Wildcats second ever appearance in the Final Four, with the first coming in the 2020-21 National Championship season.
Kentucky and Creighton entered the match as two of the hottest teams in the nation, holding the second and third longest win streaks. Creighton had won 23 straight while Kentucky’s streak stood at 25 matches.
Set one started off close, with 10 ties and three lead changes. Kentucky pulled ahead with a 5-0 run, eventually winning the first set 25-19. The Wildcats pulled out to a 7-1 lead early in set two, this lead grew to 12 points as UK took set two 25-13. Kentucky put together a 5-0 run following the media timeout in set three, completing the sweep with a 25-18 win in set three.
Kentucky recorded 47 kills with a .263% hitting percentage. Creighton had just 29 kills and hit .066% in the match.
The Wildcats elite duo of outside hitters, Brooklyn DeLeye and Eva Hudson, combined for 31 kills in the match.
DeLeye finished with 18 kills and a .326% hitting percentage, also adding 12 digs for her 10th double-double this season. Hudson recorded 13 kills while hitting .273%, she also had 15 digs for her 11th double-double of the season.
Kassie O’Brien recorded 40 assists. This was O’Brien’s 18th match with at least 40 assists this season.
Kentucky held the 2025 Big East Player of the Year, Ava Martin, to just eight kills. This was tied for Martin’s lowest total of the season.
Set One
Both teams went back and forth to begin the match. Neither team held a lead larger than one point until Creighton recorded back-to-back blocks, taking a 6-4 lead.
Kentucky took a 8-7 lead, its first of the match, with a 3-1 run. Creighton responded with a 3-0 run with two service aces by Nora Wurtz, giving the Bluejays a 10-8 lead.
Kentucky mounted a 4-0 run, fueled by two kills from DeLeye, putting the Wildcats ahead 13-11.
A 3-1 Bluejay run evened the set at 14-14, before a Kennedy Washington kill that allowed Kentucky to take a one-point lead into the media timeout.
Kentucky came out of the media timeout with a 3-0 run to take a 18-14 lead, forcing Creighton to call its first timeout of the set.
The Wildcats were once again unaffected by the timeout, coming out with a 5-2 run to take a 23-16 lead. This led to Creighton calling its second timeout of the set.
Creighton came out of the timeout with a 3-0 run that shrunk the Cats lead to four. Kentucky answered with a 2-0 run to win the first set 25-19.
Kentucky recorded 17 kills with a hitting percentage of .282% in set one. Creighton was held to a .091% hitting percentage with just nine kills.
The Bluejays didn’t hit very efficiently on attack, but they recorded three service aces and five blocks in the set.
DeLeye and Hudson both recorded six kills in the set.
O’Brien racked up 15 assists in the set, also adding four digs and a block.
Set Two
Kentucky began the second set with a 4-0 run, with DeLeye and Asia Thigpen recording two kills each. This early lead was stretched to 7-1 after back-to-back Creighton errors.
Creighton called its first timeout of the set after DeLeye’s fourth kill of the set gave Kentucky a 10-3 lead.
After failing to score on back-to-back rallies in the first half of the set, Creighton mounted a 3-1 run that shortened its deficit to six points.
Kentucky used a 2-0 run to pull ahead 20-12, forcing another Creighton timeout. Kentucky continued this run through the timeout with a 4-0 run that forced set point.
Kentucky won set two 25-13 to take a 2-0 match lead.
The Wildcats had 16 kills with a .289% hitting percentage in set two. Creighton had eight kills and eight attack errors in the set, resulting in a hitting percentage of zero.
DeLeye led Kentucky with seven kills in the second set, also adding six digs and two blocks.
O’Brien assisted on 14 of Kentucky’s 16 kills in the set.
Set Three
Creighton took an early lead in the third set with a 4-2 run, UK used a 3-1 run to even the set at 6-6.
A 4-0 Kentucky run gave the Cats a 8-6 lead, before Creighton evened the set at 8-8.
The Wildcats broke a 14-14 tie with a kill by Washington, taking a one point lead into the media timeout.
Kentucky extended its lead to 17-14 with a 2-0 run after the media timeout, forcing Creighton to take its first timeout of the set.
Kentucky mounted a 3-0 run following the Bluejays timeout to take a 20-14 lead.
The Wildcats completed the sweep with a 25-18 set three win
Kentucky had 14 kills with a .263% hitting percentage in the final set. Creighton had 12 kills and hit just .111%.
DeLeye led the Wildcats in kills for the third straight set, recording five in set three.
The Wildcats Final Four opponent will be the winner of No. 1 seed Texas and No. 3 seed Wisconsin at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri. This match will be on Thursday, Dec. 18, the time of match will be announced following the conclusion of the Elite Eight.
