One student is dead, and another is in critical condition after a shooting at Kentucky State University on Tuesday, Dec. 9, according to the Frankfort Police Department.
The suspect is in custody, and there is no ongoing threat, Frankfort Police confirmed.
“Violence has no place in our commonwealth or country. Let’s please pray for the families affected and for our KSU students,” Gov. Andy Beshear said in a statement made on X. “ Let’s also pray for a world where these things don’t happen. Thank you to our brave law enforcement who acted quickly to protect our people. ”
FPD Assistant Chief Scott Tracy confirmed in a news conference that the suspect is not a KSU student and both victims were students.
“Out of respect for both students and their families, the University will not release identifying or additional medical information at this time,” a statement from KSU said. “We are in close contact with the families and are providing every available support to them.”
Another on-campus shooting occurred at KSU in August, injuring two people who were not students.
