No. 2 Kentucky volleyball (22-2, 15-0 SEC) defeated Arkansas (5-21, 1-14 SEC) in a clean sweep (25-16, 25-20, 25-12).
Eva Hudson showed out for her senior day, hitting .438 on the match with 15 kills and three digs, Hudson continued to be a dominant force for the Wildcats.
The other freshman came out to play as Kassie O’Brien and Lizzie Carr led the way for the Wildcats. O’Brien, coming off her fifth SEC Freshman of the Week Award, ran the offense, hitting .376 in the match with 35 assists.
O’Brien anchored the team to a .302 hitting percentage.
Carr continues to be a force for the Wildcats’ defense, recording seven kills, and continuing to provide in the clutch, with a stuff late in the first set and a kill to end the second. Carr remains consistent in significant moments.
Brooklyn DeLeye, with 13 kills and nine digs, followed right behind Hudson, hitting .259 in the match. DeLeye and Hudson combined for 28 of the Wildcats’ 48 kills.
With the win, Kentucky finished perfect in the SEC, winning its ninth straight conference championship. With this title, Kentucky now holds the record for the longest streak of consecutive championships in Power Four conference volleyball.
“It’s really, really hard. So it means a lot to put ourselves in this position to have a chance to do that,” Head Coach Craig Skinner said. “Winning any conference championship is very, very difficult, and you know some of the ups and downs that we’ve experienced so far. Our team has risen to the occasion each time, and tonight was no exception.”
Kentucky will now look to keep its perfect SEC play going heading into the SEC Tournament. The Wildcats hold the No. 1 seed, granting them a bye to the quarterfinals.
The Wildcats are set to be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 23. Their opponent will be determined based on the results from rounds one and two.
