No. 19 Kentucky men’s soccer (6-1-3, 3-1-0 Sun Belt) fell 4-1 to No. 17 Marshall (5-1-4, 3-1-0 Sun Belt).
The Wildcats combined for four yellow cards and one red card, as foul trouble headlined the game for both teams. In total, Marshall and Kentucky combined for 25 fouls over the 90 minutes of play, and for the Wildcats, fouls proved costly.
The early action from the Thundering Herd caught Kentucky off guard, as Gabriel Stevanato scored the first goal of the game just before the seven-minute mark.
The first half continued at the same pace, and Keaviano Francis scored the second goal of the game for Marshall just before halftime.
The Wildcats, looking to keep their undefeated season, saw that goal made nearly impossible when star Isiah Chisolm received a red card within the first five seconds of the second half.
Kentucky, forced to play with 10 players for the rest of the game, struggled on defense quickly as Takahiro Fujita scored a goal two minutes later, extending the lead to 3-0 for Marshall.
The struggles continued to grow for the Wildcats, who received three more yellow cards and were unable to get a shot on goal during the half.
Marshall continued to drive until Joaquín Brizuela ended the shutout for the Wildcats, scoring late in the second half.
Kentucky was unable to build off the momentum, with Marshall putting the nail in the coffin with a goal from Larry Noel with just seconds left in the game.
The Wildcats have a competitive three-game stint ahead of them as they hope to get back on their winning track in the SBC.
The Wildcats return home Oct. 14 to host No. 20 Indiana for their nonconference finale at The Bell. The match will take place at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be aired live on ESPN+.
