Despite dropping the first set and trailing in the second, No. 3 Kentucky volleyball steadied itself and methodically took control, outlasting the Aggies 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-15, 27-25).
The Wildcats completed a stunning comeback against No. 9 Texas A&M, clinching the match 27-25 in the fourth set when the Aggies’ last attack clipped the tape and fell short.
Kentucky’s star outside hitter, Eva Hudson, spearheaded the comeback with her relentless energy and potent offensive arsenal.
Hudson recorded her third triple-double of the year with 24 kills, 11 digs and a hitting percentage of .373.
Midway through the third set, with Kentucky behind and the Aggies pressing, the match took a pivotal turn.
The Wildcats suppressed Texas A&M’s attack and held it to a .067 hitting percentage thanks to a strong defensive effort.
Middle blocker Brooke Bultema and redshirt sophomore Lizzie Carr worked together to make crucial blocks that changed the momentum.
The defensive pressure left a window open for Hudson’s service run that permanently broke the Aggie defense.
Both teams exchanged blows in the fourth set. After a successful challenge, the Aggies took a 22-20 lead, but Kentucky rallied once more, with Hudson scoring consecutive kills to tie the score.
Kentucky’s bench erupted when Kassie O’Brien’s serve drifted into the net on match point, knowing its perseverance throughout the match had come to a triumphant conclusion.
Carr maintained her breakout season with 11 kills and an effective .588 hitting percentage, while Brooklyn DeLeye added 19 kills with a consistent rhythm that balanced Kentucky’s attack.
The victory was Kentucky’s fourth road win over a top-10 team this season, a record that highlights both its skill and poise away from home.
The Wildcats now turn their focus to Baton Rouge, where they’ll face the LSU Tigers on Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. EST. The match will be aired live on ESPN.
