The University of Kentucky’s Police Department (UKPD) announced its annual campus safety and security report for 2024, which noted an increase of 17 reported rape cases from 2023 to 2024.
The email sent on Tuesday, Sept. 30, provided 2024 statistics, including on-campus, student housing facilities, non-campus and public property cases.
According to the report, in 2024, on campus, there were 36 reported rape cases, 12 reported aggravated assaults, 16 reported domestic violence cases and statistics regarding other criminal offenses.
“Safety is among our top priorities,” the email said. “It’s part of an effort to transparently inform the campus community regarding crimes that occur on our campus as well as important policies designed to create a safer community.”
The email provided information on reports from 2022 to 2024.
According to the email, a report from UK’s Fire Marshal stated that there were zero injuries and deaths related to fires on UK’s main campus in 2024.
“This report includes statistics on fire incidents in residential facilities on campus as well as policies related to fire safety and prevention,” the email said.
According to the email, the crime log is accessible to students and is updated every 24 hours on university business days, containing reports, arrests made and reported incidents.
The UK fire log can also be accessed and provides descriptions of all reported fires and threats of fire incidents occurring on campus.
“We are all required to notify UKPD of any situation or incident that involves a significant emergency or dangerous situation that may involve any immediate or ongoing threat to the health and safety of the UK community,” the email said.
