Kentucky football (2-1, 0-1 SEC) got back on track with 48-23 win over Eastern Michigan (0-3).
The Wildcats came into the game after falling to No. 17 Ole Miss 30-23 to open SEC play in week two.
After getting injured in that loss to the Rebels, Zach Calzada was out for this game, which meant Cutter Boley got the nod for his second career start at Kentucky.
Boley and the offense would have to wait a possession to take the field as Kentucky won the toss and elected to defer to the second half.
However, it took just one play for the offense to get on the field as a deflected ball in the air fell into the arms of Daveren Rayner for a pick.
The defense secured its second turnover in as many possessions after the Eagles opted to go for a fourth-and-2, but were stood up by the Wildcats.
Eastern Michigan continued to move down the field against the Wildcats, but this time approaching the red zone, it took the field goal to cut the deficit to 14-3.
The Wildcats stalled on offense in its third drive and were forced to punt it away to the Eagles who’s ensuing drive ended the first quarter.
With play now in the second quarter, the defense stiffened and forced a punt, which Ty Bryant returned 25-yards to give the Wildcats favorable field position.
After having little trouble moving the ball downfield on the Kentucky defense again, the Eagles were stalled out in the redzone and took a 37-yard field goal to make the score 21-6.
Boley settled back in and got the drive started with a 34-yard connection to Josh Kattus and ended it with a 4-yard passing touchdown to Kattus that extended the Kentucky lead to 28-6.
After a quick three-and-out from the offense, Eastern Michigan took the field on offense looking to cut into the deficit even more before half.
The Eagles did just that as Rudy Kessinger hit a 50-yarder that made the score 28-16. Kentucky kneeled out the end of the first half.
Both teams exchanged punts on their first drives of the third quarter.
Facing a fourth-and-8 deep in its own territory, Eastern Michigan opted to go for a fake punt that backfired and gave the offense the ball back.
Eastern Michigan found itself just past midfield and facing another fourth down, so it opted to go for it and was unsuccessful for the second turnover on downs in as many drives.
On the next offensive drive, Jacob Kauwe added on another field goal that boosted the Kentucky lead to 41-16.
Kessinger tried to match field goals with Kauwe but missed from 55-yards out on the Eagles next drive.
Jason Patterson capped off the scoring for Kentucky with a 6-yard rushing touchdown, which was the first of his collegiate career.
Eastern Michigan quarterback Noah Kim closed out the scoring with a 5-yard rushing score with just under a minute.
Following the win, Kentucky will enter its first bye week before returning to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, to take on No. 11 South Carolina on the road. A kickoff time is still to be announced.

UK “Takes care” of tiny Eastern Michigan?
One more sad example of the abuse of collegiate athletics.
