The University of Kentucky fired a tenured professor due to ethics and policy violations tied to UK’s former Equine Analytical Chemistry Lab (EACL).
Internal investigations into Scott Stanley, former equine testing lab director, began in early 2024.
According to UKNow, Stanley was charged with the following violations:
- Misrepresentation, falsification of test results and fraudulent billing
- Lack of internal controls (to prevent tampering and manipulation of data) and lack of oversight of EACL operations
- Conflicts of interest/commitment and improper hiring practices
UK officials told WKYT that Stanley’s actions compromised the integrity of testing results and demonstrated a “lack of oversight.”
The UK Board of Trustees had a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 11, to vote to revoke Stanley’s tenure and terminate his employment.
According to WKYT, UK Board Chair E. Britt Brockman said the university is committed to advancing the quality of Kentucky’s research and service.
“We must uphold the highest ethical standards and comply fully with university and industry regulations,” Brockman said. “Any violations of these policies are taken seriously and addressed to maintain the integrity of this work – the work of thousands of people across this institution.”
The Equine Analytical Chemistry Lab has since been acquired by Eagle Diagnostics, according to UKNow.
