Champions Blue LLC’s Board of Governors has endorsed the pre-design phase of a new basketball facility at the University of Kentucky, according to UKNow.
The facility will house a “dedicated practice space” for UK basketball, along with spaces for UK HealthCare sports medicine and other sports-related research areas.
The pre-design phase will involve developing floor plans and conceptual renderings as well as calculating the project’s estimated cost.
Champions Blue LLC, formed in April 2025, is the new holding company for UK Athletics, according to the UK Board of Trustees. Its Board of Governors oversees investments and facilities planning.
The project will be part of a “Sports Adjacent District,” approved by the UK Board of Trustees in June 2025.
According to UKNow, the shift of UK basketball to a new facility would free space for a separate women’s sports complex attached to Memorial Coliseum.
“This project represents the kind of forward-thinking collaboration that defines our university’s mission,” said UK President Eli Capilouto. “By bringing together athletics, health care and research, we are building a future where innovation and impact intersect, advancing Kentucky in every sense.”
The location of the new facility has yet to be determined.
