A University of Kentucky student has been arrested in connection with the death of an infant, according to the Lexington Police Department Public Information Office.
A press release sent via email said that 21-year-old Laken Snelling was arrested on Sunday, Aug. 31, and charged with “Abuse of a Corpse, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Concealing the Birth of an Infant.”
According to Lexington Police, officers responded Wednesday morning to a Park Avenue home where an unresponsive infant was discovered and later pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified Snelling as the infant’s mother.
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office is expected to determine the infant’s cause of death.
Snelling is a member of the UK STUNT team, according to the team’s website.
UK Spokesperson Jay Blanton confirmed Snelling’s student status via text.
“She is a senior enrolled at UK and is a member of the stunt team. We don’t have any other comment at this time,” Blanton wrote.
The Lexington Police Department said in the release that their Special Victims Section is continuing to investigate, and Snelling is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.

This young lady absolutely needs to STOP TALKING TO THE POLICE. This is a witch hunt. She obviously ended up in a bad situation and could have done a few things differently, but she doesn’t deserve to rot in jail. Hopefully the other students on campus will find the empathy, compassion, and solidarity to support her.

@UK Student, excellent response.
I’m curious why Snelling hasn’t been charged with premeditated murder or manslaughter.
How far along was her pregnancy? Did she miscarry or abort or give a live birth or a still born?
There are far too many unanswered questions.
But if she knew she was pregnant, delivered full term and a live birth, her actions would be vile.
