Over the weekend, Kentucky men’s golf competed in the Desert Mountain Collegiate. The tournament was hosted by Michigan, but played at the Desert Mountain Outlaw Course in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The Wildcats finished in a tie for ninth place with a total score of 883 (+19) for the three-day event.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs won the event with a score of 853.
On day one, the Wildcats played 36-37 holes, as the event was three rounds long in a two-day frame.
After round one, Jacob Settles was the low scorer for the Wildcats with a score of 3-under par (69). Following was Jack Schoenberger and Michael Hake with a score of 71 (-1).
Jansen Preston carded a 72 (E). Oakley Gee was alongside Jacob Lang with a score of 76 (+4).
Settles recorded five birdies and two bogeys during his first 18 holes of contention. Schoenbereger also had five birdies but carded four bogeys to start off his day.
With round two underway, Settles and Schoenbereger looked to keep their momentum going. Schoenberger and Gee started their second round off with an opening birdie, but each followed with a bogey on the following hole. Settles found himself in a slump as he started out three over par to being round two.
As day one concluded, the Wildcats found themselves in 10th place with a score of +8.

With day two under way, the Wildcats concluded round two with Schoenberger leading the Cats with a second-round score of 1-under par, 71. Gee followed with a score of 3-over par, 75. The rest of the Wildcats struggled as Hake and Settles carded a 7-over par round of 79 and Preston shot 8-over par, 80.
As the start of round three began, Schoenberger started his round with four straight pars before carding a bogey on the seventh hole. Seeming unfazed, he bounced back tremendously with back-to-back birdies to enter the back nine at two under par. He managed to find a rhythm as he also birdied his first two holes on the back nine.
Schoenberger finished his third round at even par with six birdies on his card. Lang finished round three with a score of 1-over par, 73. Preston (74), and Gee (75) followed. Settles and Hake both ended with a 76.
The Wildcats will be back in competition at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Georgia. This tournament will take place on March 21-23.
