No. 1 Kentucky rifle (10-0, 5-0) overcame No. T10 Memphis (4-6, 2-2) in a dual match with a score of 4,736, wrapping up a 2-0 weekend.
Kentucky’s impressive performance included 2,351 in smallbore and 2,385 in air rifle. Despite its strong showing, Memphis finished with a total score of 4,699, comprising 2,334 in smallbore and 2,365 in air rifle.
In control for the Wildcats was sophomore Braden Peiser, who delivered an outstanding performance with a score of 589 in smallbore and near perfect 599 in air rifle. This performance culminated in a match-high aggregate score of 1,188 with 93 centers.
Memphis’ Gabriela Zych followed closely, finishing as the second top individual with a score of 592 in smallbore and 594 in air rifle, achieving an aggregate score of 1,186 and 83 centers.
Kentucky’s Liz Probst and Sam Adkins also delivered strong performances, finishing third and fourth respectively. Probst scored 589 in smallbore and 596 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1,185. Adkins recorded a team best 590 in smallbore and 594 in air rifle, totaling 1,184. Martin Voss rounded out the top five for Kentucky with an aggregate score of 1,181.
In the smallbore standings, Memphis’ Zych led the way, however the Wildcats’ depth was evident as multiple Wildcats secured spots in the top rankings. Adkins, Peiser, Probst and Voss occupied those rankings. Sofia Ceccarello (585), Allison Buesseler (584) and AJ Hotko (583) also aided the Wildcats’ smallbore scoring.
The air rifle event saw Peiser, Ceccarello and Probst all excel. The pair of Ceccarello and Probst attained a 596 adding onto Peiser’s near perfect 599. Adkins contributed with a 594, as well as Voss and Buesseler who chipped in with a 593 and 592.
Kentucky will travel to Dahlonega, Georgia for a matchup with No. 19 North Georgia on Sunday, Jan. 26.
