UK women’s soccer bested rival Louisville for the sixth straight game Friday night with a 3-1 victory over the Cardinals.

The Cats fell behind early in front of the road crowd, but scored three unanswered goals to get in the win column for the first time on the season, moving to 1-2-1.

The Cardinals took the lead nearly eight minutes into the game off a finished cross in the box from Sarah Feola. The goal was the first UK had allowed against UofL since 2011.

Despite the Cards largely controlling the play for most of the first half, UK’s young squad was able to respond nicely and even it up before the half. The equalizer came by the way of a solo run from junior forward Tanya Samarzich.

Coming out of the locker room, UK took it’s turn on being the aggressor and it proved fruitful as senior Kaitlin Miller put the team ahead off a corner. The goal gave the Cats its first lead of the game and put the team in a good position to come away with the road win over its rival.

That position would only get better as senior Zoe Swift would finish off a cross in the box and give UK a two goal lead.

The Cats were outshot 18-7 by the Cards, but they were able to make the most out of the fewer opportunities to pull out the win.

UK will return to play Sunday afternoon when they return to Lexington take on High Point in front of the home crowd at the Bell at 4 p.m. ET.
