President Donald Trump came to Hebron, Kentucky, to endorse candidate Ed Gallrein, U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie’s challenger.
The visit took place in the 4th Congressional District, where Rep. Massie has been in office since 2012.
According to Gallrein’s campaign website, Gallrein is a fifth-generation farmer from Shelby County, Kentucky, and was inspired by former President Ronald Reagan to become a Navy SEAL officer.
Gallrein said he wants to “fight” for the Republican Party agenda.
“I will serve,” Gallrein said. “I commit to you as I stand here today, that I will stand shoulder to shoulder with President Trump, courageously with our Republican Party to enact the agenda we voted for and fight the Democrats and their sympathizers like Thomas Massie who seek to undermine him and destroy our nation.”
Gallrein said Rep. Massie is a misrepresentation of the Republican Party, and “failed” his district and Trump’s agenda.
During Trump’s remarks, he called Massie a “total disaster as a congressman, and frankly, a human being.”
Massie has previously criticized Trump on how he handled the Epstein Files, according to The Associated Press.
Trump called Gallrein an “incredible candidate” and asked for somebody with a “warm body” to beat Massie.
“Get rid of this loser. This guy is bad. He’s disloyal to the Republican Party, he’s disloyal to the people of Kentucky, and, most importantly, he is disloyal to the United States of America,” Trump said.
Gallrein thanked Trump on-stage for his endorsement and led the crowd in “U.S.A.” chants.
Trump’s speech
A majority of Trump’s speech focused on Kentucky, the economy and recent affairs in politics.
Trump brought up Sammy Biddle, a general manager at Pensive Distilling in Newport, Kentucky, to back cutting taxes on tips.
“A big portion of my salary comes from working double shifts and tips,” Biddle said.
Biddle thanked Trump and said this would help her achieve her lifelong dream.
Trump mentioned the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a tax and spending bill that cut federal spending to programs like Medicaid, according to Kentucky Kernel reporting.
“Thanks to the record-setting tax cuts that we passed in the great Big Beautiful Bill, biggest tax cuts in the history of our country,” Trump said.
According to Trump, the bill delivers “no tax overtime,” which qualifies overtime compensation from people’s federal income tax.
“We finally have a president who puts American workers first,” Trump said.
Trump also invited Jake Paul, an American influencer, who Trump said should become a politician in the future.
“God is with us. I know he wants us on the right side of history, and everyone here has to do their part. God’s got us, Trump’s got us. God bless. Love you, Kentucky,” Paul said.
Prior to his arrival, Trump visited Thermo Fisher Scientific, a pharmaceutical and biotechnology company, in Reading, Ohio, to discuss TrumpRx.gov, his prescription drug website.
TrumpRx.gov is set up as a facilitator to take customers to direct websites that facilitate medication purchases, according to the AP.
The website is a part of an effort by the Trump administration to deal with high-cost concerns.
