No. 1 Kentucky volleyball (24-2, 15-0 SEC) rounded off a flawless SEC regular season slate by winning the 2025 SEC Volleyball Tournament with a reverse sweep over No. 3 Texas (23-2, 13-2).
The Cats were one point away from being swept in the biggest game of the season, before clawing back and earning the title of SEC Champions with a reverse sweep.
This was the first time the SEC has hosted a postseason tournament since 2005. This win is the sixth in Kentucky’s program history, with the last coming in 1988.
The Wildcats have further proven that they are the team to beat in the SEC. Adding the first SEC Tournament title in two decades to their nine-year streak of SEC regular season titles.
Kentucky and Texas met in Austin, Texas on Nov. 2, the Cats came out with a 3-0 sweep.
Set One
Texas began the match on a 6-2 run with three kills by Abby Vander Wal.
The Wildcats took an early timeout, their first of the set, when the Longhorns lead was extended to 9-4.
The Wildcats remedied their attack struggles from early in the set and pulled back to within four, but a 2-0 run from texas extended its lead to 18-12 and forced a second UK timeout.
Kentucky’s timeouts were unable to slow Texas, with the Longhorns forcing set point at 24-18 before taking the set at 25-19.
The Wildcats were unable to overcome its early struggles as Texas cruised to a set victory.
Kentucky hit .289% in the set while Texas hit .439, this was largely due to the Wildcats four attack errors.
Vander Wal ended with seven kills in the set and Torrey Stafford had six. Brooklyn DeLeye led the Wildcats attack in the first set with four kills.
Set Two
The Wildcats came out in the second set on a 3-0 run following back-to-back service aces from Molly Tuozzo.
This early lead grew to 9-4 after a 4-1 run by the Wildcats, forcing Texas to take its first timeout of the set.
Texas worked away at the Wildcats six point lead following the timeout. After a 5-1 Longhorn run brought the set to 13-11, Kentucky called its first timeout of set two.
Kentucky extended its lead to 20-16 and forced Texas to call its second timeout of the set.
Texas mounted a 4-1 run to pull back within two points at 22-20, this forced a Wildcat timeout as they look to hold on to their second set lead.
A 3-0 Texas run evened the set at 23-23, forcing set point on the next rally.
Texas forced set point at 24, 25 and 26 but the Wildcats evened it back up each time.
Texas eventually put together a 2-0 run to take the second set 28-26.
The Wildcats led the entire set before Texas made a late surge to pick up a second set victory and put themselves one set shy of the SEC Championship.
Eva Hudson had seven kills in the set for the Wildcats. Stafford led the Longhorns attack once again with nine kills in set two.
Set Three
Texas began the third set with a 7-2 run forcing another early timeout from Kentucky. Kentucky must avoid too large of a deficit to prevent a sweep.
The Cats mounted a 3-0 run following the timeout to prevent Texas from running away with the set, and the match as a result.
Texas pulled back ahead 15-11, but Kentucky responded with a 4-1 run to bring the score to 16-15.
Kentucky called a last-ditch timeout after falling to 23-19. The Wildcats came out of the timeout with a 2-0 run to force a timeout from Texas.
Texas forced match point at 24-22, just one point shy of completing the sweep.
The Longhorns kept Kentucky at bay throughout the set. UK was prevented from tying or evening the set, that is until the Cats evened the set at 24-24.
Kentucky forced set point at 25-24 before clinching the set on the following rally, bringing Texas’s match lead to 2-1.
Kentucky used a 7-1 run late in the third set to prevent being swept and keep its SEC Championship hopes alive and force another set.
Set Four
The Wildcats hot streak that won them set three continued into the fourth set, coming out with a 4-0 run. Texas responded with a 3-0 run immediately after
The Longhorns used a 2-0 run to even the set at 7-7, then another to even the set a 9-9.
Hudson broke the tie with a kill, sparking a 6-3 run that put UK ahead 15-12 at the media timeout.
The Wildcats built upon this lead following the timeout, forcing a Texas timeout after pulling ahead 20-15.
Texas wasn’t going to give up the set that easily though. A 3-1 Longhorn run following the timeout forced Kentucky to take a timeout of its own.
The Kentucky timeout didn’t slow Texas, the Longhorns came out of the break with a 2-0 run to make the score 21-20.
The Wildcats responded with a 3-1 run to force set point at 24-21, this forced Texas to take its second timeout of the set.
Kentucky clinched the fourth set 25-22 to force a shortened fifth set for the SEC Championship.
Set Five
Texas began the set with a 2-0 run, Kentucky responded with one of its own to even the set.
Kentucky put together a 3-0 run to pull ahead 5-3 and forced Texas to take a timeout.
The Longhorns battled back to even the set at 7-7.
The Cats had a call reversed with a successful challenge that put them ahead 9-8.
This lead was extended to 11-9, forcing Texas to take its final timeout.
Kentucky came out of the timeout with a 4-0 run to complete the reverse sweep and win the SEC championship.
The NCAA Tournament selection show will be on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. ET. After finishing the regular season ranked second in the nation and winning the SEC title, Kentucky is almost guaranteed to host tournament games at Historic Memorial Coliseum as a N0. 1 seed.

The Lexington Herald-Leader, which has tons of coverage on UK sports, has absolutely nothing on the women’s volleyball team on any of the SEC Tournament games.
