Kentucky women’s soccer took on South Carolina on Thursday, Sept. 21, resulting in a 0-0 draw.
The prior week, the team faced off against Texas A&M, ending in yet another 1-1 draw.
The first half of the game showcased the remarkable defensive prowess of both teams, as the Cats and the Gamecocks engaged in a back-and-forth struggle for the first 45 minutes without any scoring.
During the sixth minute, South Carolina committed a foul, leading to a missed penalty shot by Tanner Strickland.
By the conclusion of the first half, the Wildcats had launched four shots on goal, all of which were met with equally impressive saves by South Carolina’s goalkeeper, Heather Heinz.
The second half of the game witnessed a continued defensive standoff.
Despite the absence of any goals, Kentucky managed five shots on goal while South Carolina failed to register a single one.
South Carolina’s Gracie Falla made an aggressive play against Tanner Strickland, resulting in a yellow card. Anna Young was awarded the subsequent shot but missed the kick.
Both yellow cards issued to South Carolina during the game were the result of unsporting conduct.
Throughout the course of the game, Kentucky earned seven corner kicks, all of which were swiftly blocked by the opposing defense.
With the draw, the Wildcats now boast a record of 6-0-3 and aim to maintain their undefeated streak as they head to Gainesville, Florida, next week to face the Gators on Sunday, Sept. 24, at James G. Pressley Stadium.
