The Kentucky club hockey team (1-1) lost 4-3 in a shootout against Boston University on Saturday night.
The game remained close throughout the entire duration of play, to the point where a shootout was required to decide the game.
Although Boston struck first on a power play goal, Kentucky evened the score before the end of the first period with a goal by freshman Nick Delaney, his second of the season.
In the second period the Wildcats netted two goals, one by sophomore Marc L’Heureux and one by senior captain Gabe D’Amico.
L’Heureux’s goal marked his third on the year, giving him the team lead in goals scored.
Before the period came to a close, Boston cut the lead in half, creating a 3-2 game going into the final period.
After back and forth play for most of the third period, the Terriers tied the game with just over six minutes left to play.
A five-minute 5-on-5 overtime period could not decide the game, so the teams advanced to a shootout, where Boston clinched the game after scoring two goals.
Kentucky will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina, to face NC State on Friday, Sept. 22, at 8:15 p.m. EST.
