Kentucky swim and dive selected three athletes to compete in Louisville at the Last Chance Meet on Friday and Saturday.
The swimmers selected were fifth-year senior Chris Nagy, junior Maddy Hartley and freshman Adomas Gatulis.
The selection comes after the team’s competition in the SEC Championship the week prior, where the swimmers will look to improve their event times and qualify for the NCAA Championships beginning on Monday, March 10.
During the SEC Championships, Nagy finished 11th in the 1,650-yard freestyle with the fourth best time in program history, finishing the event at 14:49.30. In the past two years, the fifth-year has qualified for the NCAA Championship in the event.
Hartley reached the C Final of the 200-yard butterfly (fly) and, in the final, the junior won her heat and placed 17th overall.
Gatulis’ performance in Athens was a breakout for the Wildcats, where he reached the C Final in the 200-yard breaststroke (breast) and finished second with a time of 52.32–the sixth best time for Kentucky.
In the preliminary men’s 100-yard breast at the Last Chance Meet, Gatulis earned a time of 52.50 and improved his final time to 52.37.
The women’s 200-yard fly showcased Harley earning herself a time of 1:57.64, followed by a final fly time of 1:57.82.
Nagy did not end up competing in the meet despite being selected to represent the white and blue.
Qualification for the NCAA Championship is still to be determined for the Wildcats.
