Kentucky rifle traveled to Morgantown and fell to West Virginia in a close match Saturday morning in the last regular season match of the season.
In smallbore, Kentucky posted a score of 2,330 led by fifth-year senior Emmie Sellers with a score of 585.
WVU slightly outscored Kentucky in smallbore with a score of 2,341.
When the match moved to air rifle, Kentucky posted a score of 2,380. Kentucky’s best scorer was Allison Buesseler, who scored a season-high score of 598.
Just like in smallbore, West Virginia slightly outscored Kentucky with a score of 2,341.
The final score ended up 4,728-4,710, with West Virginia’s Matt Sanchez finishing with a 1,184 to lead both teams in scoring.
Kentucky head coach Harry Mullins expressed hope and pride in the work the team had been putting in and appeared optimistic about the postseason.
“This is always an exciting time of year and we have to take each step in stride. We may not like some strides but we have to take them to get to where we want to be,” Mullins said to UK Athletics. “Still proud of this group and the work that they are putting in.”
After its championship streak of two years was ruined last year, Kentucky will try to start a new one this year as postseason play begins.
Kentucky will return to action next Saturday and host an NCAA Qualifier versus Morehead State.
