Good Samaritan Hospital evacuated, Lexington Fire Department on scene

The ground floor of UK Good Samaritan Hospital was evacuated this afternoon after an incident with an electrical panel and transformer, according to Ashley Montgomery-Yates, a member of the hospital’s executive leadership team.

There was water damage causing some smoke, which then set off the sprinklers.

Montgomery-Yates said the situation is under investigation as they’re trying to figure out more details.

The hospital is operational and patients are safe.

The ground floor is evacuated and consists primarily of the pharmacy, administrative offices, as well as the social work department, and it is not direct patient care, according to Montgomery-Yates.

Smoke was reported on the first floor, which is the emergency room and lab, but they are both functional and on backup power.

“We have diverted all new patients to Chandler at this time and are not going to bring anybody here to our emergency department until we get more information from the fire marshal,” Montgomery-Yates said.

No patients were evacuated and there were no injuries.

I’m a patient, and we WERE evacuated. I was in pre-op, already had my IV in and necessary injections, just minutes away from being wheeled into the operating room when it happened. Many of us left with our hospital gowns still on.
