Kentucky men’s soccer (6-6-4) defeated Georgia Southern (2-9-6) 1-0 on Tuesday night.
The Wildcats traveled down to Georgia riding a massive two-game win streak after shutting out No. 1 ranked Marshall and No. 2 ranked West Virginia.
Kentucky was able to get off six shots in the first half, but only two of them were on frame and they were both denied by Georgia Southern goalkeeper Nate Martinez.
Georgia Southern ripped two of its own shots but Kentucky goalkeeper Casper Mols stood strong and denied both as both teams went into halftime with zero.
Early on in the second half Kentucky forward Logan Dorsey netted the only goal of the game with just over 38 minutes left to play and it proved to be the difference maker as Georgia Southern
failed to score with the remaining time.
The game-winning goal was Dorsey’s fourth of the season and it was a crucial one as the win qualified Kentucky for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, keeping its season above water. Dorsey now leads all Kentucky players in goals scored with four total.
The 1–0 victory added to Kentucky’s win streak, bringing it to three in a row, while also marking seven straight unbeaten with four draws prior to the win streak.
Next up for the red-hot Wildcats is the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, which opens play on Sunday, Nov. 5, when Kentucky squares off against the No. 4 seeded James
Madison Dukes.
