Porter suffers concussion during workout

UK men’s basketball sophomore guard Michael Porter suffered a concussion while diving for a loose ball during a team workout Monday. Porter became the fourth Cat to be placed on the injured list before the beginning of practice.

Senior Joe Crawford and sophomore Derrick Jasper underwent arthroscopic knee surgery during the off-season, and junior Jared Carter had surgery to repair his injured shoulder in early June.

In a press release, head coach Billy Gillispie said he hopes to have all of his players cleared by the beginning of practice.

UK begins full-squad practice for the 2007-08 season Oct. 12 with Big Blue Madness at 9 p.m. in Rupp Arena.

Woodson nominated for AT&T Player of the Week

UK senior quarterback Andre Woodson has been nominated for the AT&T National Player of the Week after his week-five performance against Florida Atlantic. Woodson completed 26-of-33 passes for 301 yards and a career-high five touchdowns in the Cats’ 45-17 win over the Owls.

Woodson joins Wisconsin running back P.J. Hill, California wide receiver DeSean Jackson and Illinois wide receiver Arrelious Benn on the ballot list, which was determined by ESPN for each of the players’ outstanding performances during the week. The winner, determined by fan voting, will be announced during halftime of tonight’s game between UK and South Carolina.
