Calipari discusses potential Dominican Republic coaching position

UK head coach John Calipari was approached in the middle of the season about coaching the Dominican Republic national team, according to his website.

He deferred to the end of the season to give it the “proper attention” required.

The deal isn’t official, according to a UK spokesman, but on the website he discussed what his requirements would be. The committment would last from the start of August through mid-September, according to CoachCal.com.

Calipari would train Dominican Republic coaches and coach the national team.

The team would practice at the Joe Craft Center practice facilities in the summer before playing in the Tournament of the Americas.

Calipari said he was approached because of his work with the Chinese national program.
