Despite sweeping No. 10 Mississippi State 4-0 on Friday afternoon, the UK men’s tennis team could not overcome a slow start against No. 2 USC and fell 4-1.

UK would go on to defeat No. 6 Georgia in the consolation ladder 4-2 to wrap up their weekend at the ITA National Indoor Championships.

“Even though we are coming home with a 2-1 record this weekend, we are still not satisfied,” s head coach Cedric Kauffmann said following the team’s 4-2 defeat of Georgia on Sunday. “We will go home and get better.”

The highlight for the Cats weekend was the comeback victory against No. 6 Georgia on Sunday.

After falling behind 2-0 early the Cats fought back to win the next four singles matches en route to defeating the Bulldogs.

Following this weekend’s play the Cats have now defeated five teams in the ITA top-25 and seven in the top-50.

UK is 3-1 on the year against top-10 teams with the lone loss coming against No. 2 USC

The Cats will hit the road again next week as they travel to Birmingham, Ala. to face off with Samford and Jacksonville State next Sunday.
