UK softball claimed its first series win against No. 7 Alabama in school history on Sunday with a 9-5 win in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

With the two teams locked at 5-5 after seven innings, the Cats made the most of their opportunity in extra innings by scoring four runs in the top of the eighth.

Three of those runs came courtesy of a three-run home run from freshman infielder Nikki Sagermann.

No. 20 UK split a doubleheader with the Crimson Tide on Saturday, winning the first game, 5-0, before losing, 14-0, in game two.

The series win earns UK the No. 7 seed for the 2013 SEC Tournament which takes place at the Cats’ new John Cropp Stadium.

No. 10 seed South Carolina will provide the opposition when the Cats get their SEC Tournament under way on Wednesday.

First pitch at John Cropp Stadium is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
