Student Activity Board’s Kitty Karnival has been connecting members of the UK community and the Lexington area annually since 2005.

Gabri Scott, sophomore and Homecoming Chair, worked with a team of five other chairs to create the Homecoming activities. Scott said she helped to plan the Kitty Karnival because she enjoys working with kids and wanted to be part of something that involved the Lexington community.

“Homecoming is a huge tradition at UK,” Scott said. “It really connects us all — greek, non-greek, student, and non-student.”

Scott was responsible for visiting grade schools to market the event, as well as organize the 20 student organizations that had booths. Each organization was responsible for creating a booth that went along with Homecoming theme of “Race to 100.”

“It was really just first come first serve,” Scott said of the booth selection. “It was really up to the organizations, but I gave some recommendations.”

Some of the booths included corn hole games, musical chairs, pin the tail on the horse, and a “Race to Tradition.”

While the event was hosted by the Student Activities Board, representatives from Student Government also sponsored a booth to show their support. Vice President of Student Government, Jenna Hollinden, represented SGA at the face painting booth.

Hollinden said SGA wanted to promote homecoming to more than just the student community.

“Homecoming unites Lexington with the University of Kentucky,” Hollinden said.
