Foot pursuit ends in arrest near Angliana apartments

Police chased down and arrested a man who threw a gun into bushes near student apartment complexes on Angliana Avenue on Tuesday night, police said.
Officers initially responded to a call of someone acting suspicious at the Speedway on the corner of South Broadway and Angliana Avenue at about 8 p.m., police said.
When police arrived, the person was gone, but officers later found someone near the apartments who matched the description.
Police tried to stop the person, but the man ran away, eventually throwing a gun on the ground during the pursuit, police said.
The man was arrested at about 9:30 p.m., and police searched the area to make sure he did not discard any other evidence, police said.
Police do not think the man lived in the apartments.
Students stood outside the gated apartments and waited until they were allowed back inside at about 10:50 p.m.
Residents were allowed to leave if they were already inside, but were not allowed to enter the crime scene, police said.
