In the second game of day one of the Kajikawa Invitational, the No. 18 UK softball team was shut out by the Oregon State Beavers 8-0.

Oregon State’s Meehra Nelson tossed a gem as she allowed two hits and one walk in her six innings pitched.

The Beavers took an early lead in the bottom of the second inning and didn’t look back. A sac fly with the bases loaded scored the first run of the game.

In the third inning, Oregon State would score three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Two of the three would come on the two-run homer by Natalie Hampton. Lovie Lopez doubled down the leftfield line to the runner from first.

After a walk and an error began the fifth, Kayleen Shafer doubled to left to score Madison Anthony and make it 5-0. The Cats walked in the sixth run of the game, and Oregon State earned a seventh run when Alysha Everett singled to left to score Shafer. To earn the run rule win, a Beaver double scored a runner from second

Katie Reed and Nikki Sagermann would account for the Cats’ only hits in the game.

UK is slated to continue play at the Kajikawa Invitational as they face No. 4 Oregon at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
