Men’s Tennis shutout on the road by Gators

No. 20 UK Men’s Tennis suffered a 7-0 shutout to the Florida Gators on Friday afternoon in Gainesville.

UK was held to one match victory on the day, as duo William Bushamuka and Trey Yates finished first in doubles with a quick and efficient 6-2 defeat of No. 62 pairing Maxx Lipman and Elliot Orkin.

The Cats then faced a large drought to finish their day, as they failed to win a court for the rest of the afternoon.

On court one, No. 71 Nils Ellefsen and Enzo Wallart of UK fell quickly to the nations top-ranked doubles pairing Diego Hidalgo and Gordon Watson of Florida, 6-2.

Clinching the doubles point for the Gators was the duo Alfredo Perez and Chase Perez-Blanco, topping Cat tandem of Ryotaro Mastumura and Austin Hussey 6-3.

In singles play, going down first for the Cats was Ellefsen. The junior suffered a 6-2, 6-4 defeat by the hands of No. 38 Orkin of Florida.

Freshman Wallart also went out quickly for UK, falling 6-2, 6-2 to Gator Chase Perez-Blanco.

Clinching the match early for the Gators was No. 13 Hidalgo as he earned a hard fought victory over No. 31 Bushamuka in extra sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

Putting up a fight were freshman Mastumura, sophomore Jake Stefanik, and Yates. The three Cats left standing all pushed their matches to extra sets, though they all fell to the Gators and officially lost by a score of 0-7.

The UK men will close out their regular season as they travel to Auburn, Alabama for Sunday’s match. The match will be hosted by the Auburn Tigers and will start at 2:00 p.m. ET.
