Heartbreaking news for those who once did it “for the Vine”

Twitter announced yesterday that it is shutting down its short-form video app, Vine, which it acquired in 2012. The change won’t be immediate, and users will have the chance to download their Vine videos before the official closure.

For the time being, the website will remain online to preserve all of the Vines that have given so much joy to millennials everywhere – and even made some of them internet famous.

Competition from apps like Snapchat and Instagram are likely what led to Vine’s demise. Twitter, itself, has had multiple struggles in the past months with recent layoffs and failed attempts to find an acquirer for the company.
