Michelle Rhee not to be Trump’s education secretary

Former chancellor of D.C. Public Schools, Michelle Rhee, has taken herself out of the running to become President-elect Donald Trump’s education secretary.

In a tweet on Tuesday afternoon, Rhee stated that she would not pursue the position. There had been much speculation that Rhee would be the education secretary under Trump, especially after Rhee and her husband met with the president-elect over the weekend.

As the education secretary, Rhee, an Asian American woman, would have brought diversity to Trump’s cabinet, which is expected to be largely comprised of white males. Rhee is also a Democrat and a strong advocate for change in the American education system.

Despite not pursuing the position, Rhee wishes success to the Trump administration and will continue to push for the improvement of education for all American children.
