Wisconsin fighting release of ‘Making a Murderer’ suspect

A judge ordered Monday that Brendan Dassey, one of the subjects of the Netflix documentary ‘Making a Murderer’ be released from prison after his conviction was overturned.

Dassey has been in prison since 2007 when he was sentenced to life in the 2005 murder of 25-year-old Theresa Halbach. Dassey’s uncle, Steven Avery, is also serving a life sentence for the murder.

Dassey’s conviction was reversed in August after a judge ruled that Dassey’s constitutional rights were violated due to interrogation techniques used on him. Dassey was 16 at the time of the murder.

Pending further court developments and fighting appeals from Wisconsin’s attorney general, Dassey’s legal team hopes he will be released by Thanksgiving.
